Kireji is coming along nicely. I like the 8-page fomat. It makes for a very do-able project. I'm feeling good about it, even if the story itself describes some unhappy times.
My kids have been following the book's progress, and I've been asking them what they think, and they say that they're glad they didn't grow up in 1984. That makes me laugh, but it's true. Anti-bullying awareness has come a long way from when I was a kid. The 'boys will be boys' attitude is gone. There's a 'hands are for helping' message that's drilled into them from pre-school, and there's a fully-enforced zero-tolerance policy on violence of any kind.
Ah, progress.

That's frikking amazing. Long live progress. I get so disheartened sometimes when people complain about the world becoming too "PC". There are attitudes and behaviours that NEED to be eliminated, and bullying is one of them.

The whole cycle of violence is better understood, and there's the political will to take action about it. Maybe in another 20 years things will be even better... maybe we'll see women construction workers... not just holding the stop/slow sign, but actually driving the trucks and stuff

Are you guys saying I no longer have to walk tall and carry a big stick? I like my stick.

Everyone has the right to carry a big stick, J-Mick: it's all about how you choose to use it!

and yet, in politics, there's plenty of bullying going on. Went for a tour in Regina yesterday, and the two parties sit across from each other in the chamber, when their busy scrapping over the laws. What happened to the Round Table idea? Luckily, with each generation, that violence and competition fades.

Bullying has not left us completely, and I doubt it ever will. It's just sometimes more subtle now.
