Got something to say? Say it Loud!

Kudos for the great amounts of hair and expressions open to the custom Zeds. I have to say though that my expression on my particular Zed matches my mood this morning - general excitement followed by "Curses! I'm not Japanse or Canadian!" Oh well - I honestly don't need any extra work between Bat & Wolf, my Affinity Storm project and a possible documentary project, but just so you know - I do have a great manga project TokoyoPop took interest in that I'd like to eventually revive soon. So I guess what I'm really saying is, "You guys are getting off light!" But I'm really excited to see what comes out of this project. I never really thought of a cultural Japanese/Canadian connection, but I'm American, so I don't really know that much about foriegn policy outside of the States. Good look to all the artists and pitchers! I will be watching and weighing in!

It doesn't really help that I'm holding a spear in my hand either, does it?

I'm curious about this Tokyopop project you mentioned. Do they accept submissions?

I think Tokyopop is actually doing something similar to Z2H now. You enter your submission into a public pool and the readers choose what should get printed. Something like that. Sorry, I read the instructions a long time ago.

Oh ok. The last time I checked their site, the only way to submit was to have some work ready for one of their manga stars contest. Chances are I got the name wrong but you know what I mean. It was like a manga version of DTD.

Yeah, I think you need to have a script ready or something, but there was actually something just for writers. The Rising Stars of Manga was for fully completed manga. Maybe someone will go read the rules and report back here, LOL.

The writer project is called Manga Pilot, but it looks like they now want some character sketches along with the short script. They also want a marketing plan. Check it out: http://www.tokyopop.com/Manga_Pilots/gopro/1543079.html

Well, my project was a long time ago - at least three years ago. What happened was I prepared the project - character designs, scripts, premise and even a tag line - and then shopped it around WizardWorld. It was a pretty eye-opening experience - some people were helpful and some people were downright mean. One of the helpful people was actually a rep from TokyoPop who gave me his e-mail. The project fell apart for two reasons. First off, the artist bolted, and secondly, when TokyoPop did finally write me back, they wanted changed I wasn't prepared to make. The thing is, I should have made the changes. They wanted a female POV instead of a male POV and I grumbled grumbled "I know what's best for the story!" when in reality, I could have switched the POV without sacrificing the core of my story - and perhaps enhancing it! So the whole thing just goes to show you - keep an open mind when you write!

Forgive my ignorance but what is WizardWorld?

Oh, RPulfer, that's too bad--you really should've made that change!

@Geko: Wizard World is a "brand" of comic cons.

@genrewriter - Maybe. Maybe not. It was definitely a lesson of humility I had to learn, but if I hadn't put aside that project I don't think Bat & Wolf would be where it is today.

@RPulfer: Why don't you try the pitch at TokyoPop again? They probably have new editors, and with the Manga Pilot program I think it's up to the readers to choose which pitches have potential. Plus, if you do think that having a female POV could enhance the story, maybe you should try it that way.

That would be an idea. I'm kind of a little stretched thin at the moment - hence why Manga Memoir's eight pager seemed an attractive (and obtainable) goal. However, I do want a summer project - maybe that will be it :)
