You know what that means right? RIGHT! You, me and everyone we know will get to read the finished product very soon. I'm being somewhat vague, I know.
"WHEN will we see it Morgan?!"
"Soon."
"How long, specifically"
"Umm, soon."
There's a few loose ends to tie up before I can give an exact date, but, we're talking within a week. In the meantime, rest assured that it's turned out great. That says a lot coming from me too, as I'm my own harshest critic.
This anthology was my first foray into the world of the Editor (professionally speaking). I learned so much about the craft from all the very talented artists and writers that I collaborated with. I considered my role as Editor to be that of through line, a stable element running through the center of the 8 books. A tether for ideas and creative teams, something to keep the intent of the stories intact and guide them through to completion in (hopefully) the best possible way.
Thanks to the writers for their stories and the artists for their unique interpretations.
This weekend in Vancouver, there's an Anime convention happening at the brand new convention center.
Anime Evolution 2009 at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre is Vancouver's premiere Asian popular cultural event where audiences and industry interact directly in an informal setting.
The three-day convention is expected to draw close to 5,000 people and brings together art, animation (anime), comic books (manga), video games, film and music in a celebration of Asian popular culture and multimedia.
Convention attendees can attend Q&A's and workshops with voice actors, directors, artists, animators, comic books publishers and game developers.
Video screenings, video game rooms, a cultural festival and live performances by DJs, bands and improv actors are sure to keep guests thoroughly entertained.
On behalf of Zeros 2 Heroes I'll be part of a panel there, along with Tenzil Kem (Kevin McKay) and Aya Ikeda Barry. The focus of the panel will be the Manga Memoirs project and subsequent anthology.
If you're in the Vancouver area and would like to attend and watch me blubber and stumble my way through a brief presentation, it's happening on Sunday, June 14th from 10-11am.
See event website for further details.
Now that my duties as Editor on the project are nearing their completion, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their interest in Manga Memoirs.
To those that submitted and reviewed stories, thanks. To the creators whose books were chosen for production, it was a pleasure to work with you, thanks for sharing your memoirs with us. To the artists---you're work exceeded my expectations on all levels, thanks for making me look like a competent captain.
There will be one or two more of these posts soon, sort of another post-edition and a more "reaction to the anthology" edition, wherein we'll discuss the finished product.
